LaLonde Named
Second-Team Academic All-American
UW-Stevens Point senior Mark LaLonde has been
named a second-team Academic All-American in men�s track and field and
cross country on the squad selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America and sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
A Park
Falls
native, LaLonde is the fourth UW-Stevens Point men�s track and field
athlete to earn the honor. He is the school�s 24th Academic All-American
in the last six years and the 28th athlete in school history to earn the
honor. UW-Eau Claire�s John Schuna was also a second-team selection and
joined LaLonde as the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
athlete on any of the three All-American teams.
LaLonde
carries a 3.79 grade point average in Business Administration and was
the WIAC scholar athlete recipient in cross country. He placed fifth in
the 3,000-meter steeplechase and sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the
NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships. LaLonde was
runner-up in the 5,000-meter run at this year�s indoor championships and
placed sixth overall at the Division III cross country championships.
Other
previous UW-Stevens Point men�s track and field Academic All-Americans
were Curt Johnson in 2004, Craig Gunderson in 2002 and Dan Schwamberger
in 2000. |
