Pointer Track & Field Claims Five All-Americans

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point had three women and two men earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships over the weekend in Decatur, Ill.

The Pointer women finished 21st overall with 11 team points, while the men's team had 10 points for a 27th place finish. UW-La Crosse successfully defended its men's title, and UW-Oshkosh won the women's crown.

Megan Craig posted a third place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.42 to lead the women's team. Julia Slabosheski was sixth in the discus at 143 feet, seven inches and Jenna Mitchler was seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:16.53. An athlete needs a top eight finish to earn All-American accolades.

Andrew Schliepp led the men with a third place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.69 seconds. Rosholt native Mark Wierzba was fifth in the hammer throw at 182 feet, 11 inches.
