Pointers End Regular Season in Loss to
Blue Devils
The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team
closed its regular season with a 7-2 loss to UW-Stout on Saturday in
Menomonie. It was the Pointers' final match before next weekend's
conference tournament.
Angie Brown led the Pointers with a
straight-set win at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-4. Sarah O'Melia secured a
victory at No. 6 singles with a 7-1 first set tiebreaker and 6-1 second
set win.
Mashell VerBockel continued her strong play
after winning both matches on Friday. VerBockel battled 6-4, 6-4 in a
hard-fought loss at No. 5 singles. Brown teamed up with VerBockel in a 8-5
loss at No. 2 doubles.
UW-Stevens Point finished the regular season
4-7 overall and 0-6 in the WIAC. UW-Stout improved to 7-5 overall
and 2-4 in the WIAC.
