Pointer Conclude Season
Sixth at WIAC Tournament
Emily Schlender placed fourth at No. 3
singles to lead the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team at this
weekend's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament in
Madison.
Schlender, seeded sixth, beat
third-seeded Lauren Young of UW-Oshkosh 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the opening
round before dropping her next two matches to finish fourth. Angie Brown
had the Pointers' only other singles win with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over
Sarah Marsicek of UW-Oshkosh in the consolation bracket at No. 6.
Schlender and Amber Wilkowski were
sixth at No. 1 doubles, posting an 8-2 win over UW-Stout's Tina Rodin
and Rachael Weber in the consolation round. Kim Goron and Tiffany
Serpico were sixth at No. 2 doubles, beating Meghan Fieber and Cicily
Hiner of UW-Stout 8-5 in consolation play.
UW-Stevens Point finished sixth of
seven teams at the meet. UW-La Crosse ended UW-Eau Claire's 10-year
reign as conference champ, beating the Blugolds by one point.
