Pointers Post Quality Times
at Wheaton Invite
Alex Anderson had an �A� cut national
qualifying time while Caitlin Hake and the women's 200-yard freestyle
relay both set school records as
UW-Stevens Point�s men�s and women�s swimming and diving teams both
posted numerous national qualifying times at the Wheaton Invitational
over the weekend.
Anderson posted the top performance of
the meet with an �A� cut national qualifying time of 56.21 seconds in
winning the men�s 100-yard breaststroke title. Anderson was also a
member of four relays that posted �B� cut times as the 200-yard
freestyle relay was third in 1:24.19, the 400-yard freestyle relay was
second in 3:06.10, the 200-yard medley relay was second in 1:33.94 and
the 400-yard medley relay was fourth in 3:28.62.
Chase Gross swam on both freestyle relays and
the 200 medley, while posting �B� cut individual times with a third
place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.07 and a fourth place
effort in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.43 seconds. Garth Newport was on
both medley relays and had a �B� cut time with a second place finish in
the 100-yard butterfly in 50.99 seconds. Matt Grunwald swam on the 400
freestyle relay and was second in the 200-yard butterfly with a �B� cut
time of 1:54.42.
Hake set a school record for the
women�s team with a �B� cut time of 52.68 in the prelims of the 100-yard
freestyle. She finished third in the finals and was second in the
50-yard freestyle in 24.10 seconds. Hake also swam on a school record
setting relay as
the 200-yard freestyle relay with Jerica Crook, Kelsey Crunstedt and
Beth Bard posted a �B� cut time of 1:36.43. Jennie Roskopf had a �B� cut time in
the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing second with a time of 1:07.78.
The Pointer women finished behind only
UW-Milwaukee in the nine-team meet, while Washington (Mo.) won the men�s
meet as UW-Stevens Point placed fourth.
