Walsh Takes Title; Women
Second at Point Invite
Meghan Walsh captured the 200-yard butterfly
as UW-Stevens Point�s only individual champion on the first day of the
Get to the Point swimming invitational in Stevens Point.
Walsh posted a time of 2:15.26 to win by
three-hundreths of a second. Her effort helped the Pointer women�s team
to second place after the opening day as UW-Stevens Point has 422 points
to hold a five-point edge over UW-La Crosse. North Dakota is the first
day leader with 576 points.
The Pointers also had runner-up performances
from Liz Herder in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.53 and Caitlin Hake
in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.70 seconds. A pair of relays were also second
as the 200-yard freestyle team had a time of 1:38.82 and the 400-yard
medley team had a time of 4:04.20.
The Pointer men�s team is in third place with
321 points. North Dakota also leads the seven-team men�s event with 523
points and Gustavus Adolphus has 340 points.
The men�s 200-yard freestyle relay team won
its event as the team of Alex Anderson, Kyle Hartl, Tyler Eloranta and
Chase Gross posted a time of 1:25.41. The 400-yard medley relay was
second in 3:36.07 and the 800-yard freestyle relay was second in
7:06.80.
The meet continues on Saturday with prelims at
9 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m. at the UW-Stevens Point Aquatics Center.
