Pointers Sweep UW-La Crosse in Dual Meet

     With the meet down to its final event, UW-Stevens Point swept the top two spots in the women�s 400-yard freestyle relay to earn its first women�s swimming and diving win over rival UW-La Crosse since 2001 with a 125-118 victory on Saturday in Stevens Point.

     The team of Beth Bard, Jerica Crook, Amy Bennett and Kelsey Crunstedt won the event in 3:39.21, while Bridget Gormley, Ashley Wilhelm, Lindsey Googins and Alissa Colbert were second as the Pointers erased a six-point deficit entering the final race.

     Meanwhile, the Pointer men cruised to their 47th straight conference dual victory with a 168-73 win over the Eagles.

     Caitlin Hake led the women�s team with victories in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.64 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 53.93 seconds. She also joined Liz Herder, Jennie Roskopf and Meghan Walsh to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:00.47. Bennett had the Pointers� only other individual win in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.50 as UW-La Crosse won eight of the meet�s 13 events.

     Alex Anderson and Matt Grunwald each won two individual events and a relay for the men�s team. Anderson captured the 50-yard freestyle in 21.24 seconds and 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.32. Grunwald claimed the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.37 and the 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.64.

     Anderson teamed with Willie Clapp, Garth Newport and Tyler Eloranta for a win in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:32.25. Grunwald combined with Kyle Hartl, Chase Gross and Eloranta in a 400-yard freestyle relay win in 3:10.81.

     Gross also won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.78 seconds and Ben Gensler finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:11.28. The Pointers also captured both diving events with Jack Riley taking the one-meter competition and David Hayes claiming the three-meter event.
