Boelk
Wins Two Events as Swimmers Fall to UW-Green Bay
Randy
Boelk won two events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
swimming and diving teams, but it wasn't enough to help the Pointers to a
team victory as both the men's and women's teams suffered their first dual
meet losses of the season Sunday at Division I UW-Green Bay.
Boelk
won the 200 individual medley in 1:56.25 and the 100 backstroke in 52.06
seconds, however, the Pointer men lost to the Phoenix 139-93. The
UW-Stevens Point women didn't have any individual event winners in a
154-84 loss.
The
Pointer men and women both completed their dual meet seasons at 6-1 for
the second straight year, having lost their only duals last year to
UW-Green Bay as well. UW-Stevens Point will next compete at the WIAC
championships Feb. 15-17 in Oshkosh.
Chris
Hansman and John Green were the only other individual winners for the
men's team. Hansman captured the 1-meter diving event and Green won the 50
freestyle in 22.04 seconds. Anthony Harris was second in the 100 butterfly
in 52.50 seconds and teamed with Boelk, Nick Hansen and Aaron Heiss to
finish second in the 400 medley relay in 3:35.16.
On
the women's side, Christine Sammons was second in the 200 individual
medley in 2:17.84 and second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.57. Other
second place efforts came from Melanie Luke in the 500 freestyle in
5:22.67, Mary Thone in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.57, Julie Johnson in
1-meter diving and Elizabeth Kane in 3-meter diving.
