Pointers Open
Season With Convincing Victories
The UW-Stevens Point softball pounded out 24
hits and got a pair of solid pitching performances to open the season with
two convincing victories on Sunday in Kissimmee, Fla.
The 25th-ranked Pointers opened the day with a
10-1 win over Westminster (Pa.) behind a two-hitter from Stephanie
Anderson and then got a one-hit shutout from freshman Ashley Tobalsky in
an 8-0 triumph over Eastern Connecticut State.
UW-Stevens Point put up four runs in the fourth
inning and six more in the sixth to rout Westminster. Nine different
players scored run for the Pointers and Melissa Boldt went three-for-three
in the win. Anderson was two-for-four with four RBI�s and Mandy Jellish
was also two-for-four. Anderson struck out four in the six-inning victory.
Anderson finished off a big day with a
three-for-three performance in the second game as the Pointers totaled 14
hits. They scored three runs in the opening inning and then added two in
the fourth and three in the fifth to win by the eight-run rule after five
innings.
Jenny Feidt was two-for-two with a double and
two RBI�s, while Laura Van Abel and Korryn Brooks were each two-for-three.
The Pointers take on Millikin and Augsburg on
Monday. |
