Pointers Deliver
Three More Victories in Florida
Kelly Jablonski provided the
pitching and Jenny Feidt gave the UW-Stevens Point softball team all the
offense it needed in a 2-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on
Thursday in Kissimmee, Fla.
UW-Stevens Point pounded out
11 hits later in the day while posting a 7-0 win over Augsburg and then
squeaked out a 2-1 decision over Eastern Connecticut State at night. The
Pointers improved to 5-1 with the victories and wrap up their trip with
four more games on Friday.
Jablonski pitched a four-hit
shutout and struck out eight while walking one in the complete game
victory. It was the freshman's second shutout in three starts. The only
runs came in the third inning when Mandy Jellish reached on an error and
scored on the Pointers' only hit of the day - a two-out double by Feidt.
The leftfielder misplayed Feidt's ball and she came around to score on the
play.
Against Augsburg, freshman
Abby Romdenne was three-for-three and drove in the game's first run with
an RBI triple in the second inning. Jessica Cook and Laura Zierler were
each two-for-two. Senior Katie Knoedler pitched a complete game
three-hitter for her first career shutout as the Pointers still have not
allowed an earned run in five games.
Stephanie Anderson struck
out 11 and walked one while allowing four hits in a complete game win over
Eastern Connecticut State. She also went two-for-three at the plate.
Rebekah Bauer drove home the game's first run with a first inning RBI
triple and then scored the go-ahead run in the sixth when she doubled and
scored on a single by Cook. Bauer finished the game two-for-three.
UW-Stevens Point is scheduled to
conclude its trip on Friday with three more games as well as the
completion of a suspended game from Monday.
