LA CROSSE - The University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's softball season ended the regular season
with a bang, and Rebekah Bauer provided some sparks that placed her in the
school record book.
The Pointers (18-19, 7-9 WIAC) opened the day with a 7-3 victory over
UW-La Crosse, then finished with a close 2-1 decision over River Falls.
With the wins, UWSP moves on to the conference tournament as the sixth
seed, and will travel to River Falls to face No. 3 UW-Superior on Friday
at 11 a.m.
Bauer, a former Stevens Point Area Senior High athlete, finished the day
with a combined 3-for-7 performance at the plate with a home run, two
doubles and four RBIs.
In the process, Bauer set a school record for extra-base hits in a season
with 24. The previous record of 22 had been set by Kari Rowekamp during
1996.
Mandy Jellish went 3-for-4 with three runs scored while pitchers Stephanie
Anderson and Alyisa Klawitter combined for two strikouts and three walks
in the win against La Crosse.
Against River Falls, Jenny Fiedt was 2-for-3 while Anderson went the
distance with six strikeouts for the Pointers.
