Offense Erupts as Pointers Defeat Warhawks
Box Score
Amanda Prawat and Kimie Wiepz each scored two goals as UW-Stevens Point
had its highest-scoring match of the season with a 5-1 women's soccer
victory over UW-Whitewater on Tuesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
UW-Whitewater's Melissa
Dirnbauer scored just 1:06 into the match, but Prawat quickly answered to
put the Pointers in front. The freshman scored after Liz Kidd threaded a
perfect pass through the defense at the 4:56 mark and then tallied another
just over four minutes later when she beat her defender and drilled a shot
from 15 yards out.
Wiepz sparked the offense in
the second half, scoring just 18 seconds into the period when she sent a
cross in front of the goal that was mishandled and landed in the back of
the net. She scored again just over seven minutes later on a shot directly
off a throw-in by Prawat.
Gwen Blasczyk finished the
scoring for the Pointers with a goal with 33 seconds left that was lofted
over the goalkeeper's head from 20 yards out. Anna Van Stippen assisted
the final tally.
The Warhawks held a 17-16
advantage in shots as Meredith DeCaluwe made eight saves for the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 6-5-1
overall and 3-2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
