Pointers Fall to Defending National Champs

UW-Stevens Point hung with defending NCAA Division III champion Wheaton
for the first half before eventually succumbing to a 5-2 decision on
Friday in Wheaton, Ill.
The Pointers trailed the
10th-ranked Thunder 1-0 at halftime before falling behind 4-0 in the
second half. UW-Stevens Point mounted a late rally behind some uncommon
scorers as freshmen Alyssa Spaude and Kaylee Weise both tallied their
first career goals to pull the Pointers to within 4-2.
UW-Stevens Point had another
close chance to nearly come within a goal before the Thunder added a late
goal for the final scoring.
The Pointers fell to 5-5-1
overall with the loss. UW-Stevens Point has three straight home matches
coming up, beginning Tuesday against UW-Whitewater at 4 p.m.
