Seniors All Score as Pointers Rout Green Knights
Box Score
Eight different players
scored goals, including all four seniors in their final home match, as the
UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team cruised to a 10-0 rout of St. Norbert
on Tuesday at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.
It marked the first home
night match in UW-Stevens Point history and also improved the Pointers to
8-5-2, assuring them of their 18th straight winning season, which is the
fifth longest current streak in the NCAA Division III.
The Pointers wasted no time
in building an early lead as Liz Kidd, Erin Walsh and Amanda Prawat all
scored in the first 15 minutes. Prawat blasted a free kick that bounced
off the far post and into the goal. Gwen Blasczyk added a penalty kick and
Jennisa Koch scored to increase the lead to 5-0 at halftime.
Prawat scored another
impressive goal early in the second half, stealing the ball away from a
defender and launching a shot from 20 yards that sailed over the
goalkeeper for a 6-0 lead.
After Walsh scored in the
first half, the other seniors joined the act in the second period as Ali
Havlik, Katie O'Leary and Tasha Fritsch all tallied goals. It was
Fritsch's first goal in her four-year career.
Koch finished the scoring
with just under 18 minutes left when she rebounded Meghan VandenHeuvel's
shot off the post. It marked the first two goals of the season for the
freshman.
The loss dropped St. Norbert
to 3-10 overall and was the worst in Green Knights history, surpassing the
8-0 margin suffered last year to UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers held a
33-3 advantage in shots and put nine of their 14 second half shots on
goal.
