Pointers Open WIAC Season By Defeating Pioneers

UW-Stevens Point scored
three goals in the first 13 minutes and held that lead the rest of the
match to open the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's
soccer season with a 3-0 win at UW-Platteville on Sunday.
The Pointers scored two
quick goals less than a minute apart in the first five minutes as Liz Kidd
scored unassisted and Gwen Blasczyk followed with a goal off an assist
from Erin Walsh. Katie O'Leary added another goal on a penalty kick at the
12:24 mark as the Pointers held a 17-0 advantage in shots in the first
half.
UW-Stevens Point finished
off the shutout in the second half as the defense limited the Pioneers to
just two shots and Meredith DeCaluwe was successful on both save attempts.
The Pointers fired 24 shots for the match.
UW-Stevens Point has never
lost a WIAC regular season opener and is now 92-2-4 all-time in conference
regular season matches. The Pointers are 2-2 for the season and play at
Lawrence on Wednesday.
