Pointers Open WIAC Season By Defeating Pioneers

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point scored three goals in the first 13 minutes and held that lead the rest of the match to open the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer season with a 3-0 win at UW-Platteville on Sunday.

The Pointers scored two quick goals less than a minute apart in the first five minutes as Liz Kidd scored unassisted and Gwen Blasczyk followed with a goal off an assist from Erin Walsh. Katie O'Leary added another goal on a penalty kick at the 12:24 mark as the Pointers held a 17-0 advantage in shots in the first half.

UW-Stevens Point finished off the shutout in the second half as the defense limited the Pioneers to just two shots and Meredith DeCaluwe was successful on both save attempts. The Pointers fired 24 shots for the match.
