Box Score
UW-Stevens Point answered UW-Eau Claire twice to
force a 2-2 tie and give the Blugolds their first conference blemish of
the season in an intense womens soccer match on Saturday at the Pointer
Soccer Bowl.
The teams scored a goal in each half with
UW-Eau Claire scoring first each time and the Pointers coming back to
force the tie. UW-Stevens Point is now 22-0-2 in its last 24 matches
with the Blugolds, though the tie snapped the Pointers 18-match win
streak in the rivalry. UW-Stevens Point is now 7-5-2 overall and
finished league play at 4-2-2. UW-Eau Claire is 10-1-3 overall and 5-0-1
in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
UW-Eau Claire scored the first goal of the
match at the 20:47 mark of the first half when the Pointers attempted to
pass the ball back to the goalkeeper and Maria Iaizzo picked off the
pass and scored into an empty net. UW-Stevens Point answered 17 minutes
later as Anna Van Stippen took a feed from Kaylee Weise for an open shot
15 yards in front of the net that she drilled into the lower left
corner, marking the juniors first goal of the season.
The Blugolds scored five minutes into the
second half as Liz Kooistra took a cross from Marcia Foltz and drilled a
shot from directly in front of the net for a 2-1 lead. UW-Eau Claire
controlled play at that point, holding the Pointers without a shot
attempt for the next 25 minutes. UW-Stevens Point goalie Meredith
DeCaluwe made a full diving save on a wide open shot with 15 minutes
left that seemed to turn momentum back to the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point tied the match with 7:13 left
as defender Tasha Fritsch picked up a loose ball on the sideline and
passed to Amanda Prawat, who collected the pass with her back to the
net, turned and fired a shot into the lower corner.
Both teams had tremendous scoring chances in
overtime as UW-Eau Claires Marcia Foltz ripped a shot off the crossbar
in the first 10-minute stanza and Weise had an open look that Blugolds
goalie Allison Rivard made a fingertip save on early in the second extra
session.
UW-Eau Claire held a 19-12 advantage in shots
as DeCaluwe made seven saves for the Pointers. Rivard had three saves
and Liz Werick made two saves for the Blugolds.
