Schmitt's Goal Gives Pointers Tournament Title

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Tara Schmitt scored the
game-winning goal in overtime Sunday as the University of Wisconsin
women's soccer team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 2-1 in the
title game of the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament.
It just the second career goal for Schmitt, a senior all-Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference defender. Schmitt intercepted the ball
at midfield, dribbled through the RIT defense and banged a shot off the
left post for a goal.
RIT took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Melissa Becker tied things up eight
minutes into the second half on a penatly kick.
UWSP goalkeeper Kortney Krill recorded one save in the victory.
The Pointers (2-0) host Lawrence at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. |
