Schmitt, Becker
Named to Third Team All-Region Soccer Team
UW-Stevens Point
had two players named to the All-Central Region women�s soccer squad by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as senior defender Tara
Schmitt and senior midfielder Melissa Becker were both honored as
third-team selections.
Schmitt, a
Brookfield native and Waukesha
Catholic
Memorial High School
graduate, was the WIAC Player of the Year and leader of the Pointers�
defense that posted nine shutouts and held opponents to 23 goals and just
8.7 shots per match. A four-time all-conference selection, Schmitt was
also a second-team All-Region pick during her freshman season.
Becker, a Rhinelander native, totaled five goals and seven assists
for 17 regular season points, including the lone goal in the WIAC
tournament championship match against UW-Oshkosh. She also had two goals
in a first round NCAA tournament win over Concordia. |
