Bruce Named Soccer Academic All-American of the Year, Fink Also

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
senior Jenny Bruce received the highest honor of any student-athlete in
college division women�s soccer as the Academic All-American of the Year.
Bruce is the first Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference student-athlete ever to earn the award
in any sport. A first-team Academic All-American, she is also the first
UW-Stevens Point athlete ever named to the Academic All-America team three
straight years.
Bruce was joined on the team by
senior teammate Kelly Fink, who earned her first Academic All-America
award as a third-team selection. The team is comprised of all NCAA
Division II, Division III and NAIA athletes from around the country and is
selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Bruce and Fink give UW-Stevens Point 23
Academic All-American selections in school history, including 20 in the
past five years. In addition to Bruce, four other Pointer athletes have
been two-time selections. Bruce is the fifth first-team Academic
All-American in school history.
A
Menasha native, Bruce was a third-team selection last season and was a
second-team honoree as a sophomore. She was this season�s WIAC scholar
athlete and has a 3.94 grade point average in Sociology. Bruce is the
all-time conference assists leader and ranks 11th in NCAA Division III
history with 53 for her career. Bruce
Fink, a
West Bend native and West High School graduate, was one of three Division
III players named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America scholar
athlete last year and carries a 3.59 grade point average in Elementary
Education. This season�s WIAC Co-Player of the Year, she ranks 11th in
Division III history with 235 career points and 12th with 98 career goals.
Bruce
and Fink combined for a 73-12-5 record during their careers, including
four NCAA Division III tournament appearances. The Pointers were 15-4-3
this past season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. |
