Bruce Scores Three as Pointers Set NCAA Conference Win Streak Mark

Jenny Bruce scored three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match as the UW-Stevens Point womens soccer team set the NCAA all-divisions record for consecutive wins over conference opponents with a 3-0 win over UW-Whitewater Tuesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

The win was UW-Stevens Points 56th straight over a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, snapping North Carolinas 55-match win streak over Atlantic Coast Conference foes from 1994-2000. It was the Pointers 44th shutout among the 56 matches as they have outscored teams 289-13 during the remarkable streak.

Bruce wasted no time putting the Pointers ahead as she scored off a cross from Kelly Fink just 56 seconds into the match. Five minutes later, Emma-klara Porter sent a cross in front that Warhawks goalie Jamie Carollo knocked down, but Bruce put in the rebound for a 2-0 lead. Bruce finished the scoring at the 13:04 mark, scoring her third goal on her third shot attempt of the match off a cross from Andrea Oswald.

Bruces third goal gave the junior 30 goals and 32 assists for her career, making her the third player in Pointer history to reach 30 goals and 30 assists along with Molly Cady and Susie Lindauer.

UW-Stevens Point outshot the Warhawks 24-8 for the match as Carollo made 13 saves to hold the Pointers scoreless for the final 77 minutes of the contest. Kortney Krill and Melissa Meister combined on the shutout for the Pointers, who are now 3-0-1 and ranked fifth in Division III. The Pointers have a 37-3-1 record over their last 41 matches.

The conference win streak dates to a 4-1 loss to UW-La Crosse in the 1996 WIAC tournament title match. The Pointers are now 99-1-2 all-time against WIAC opponents, including a 72-0-2 mark in regular season conference matches. UW-Stevens Point has outshot opponents 1,602-254 over the 56-match streak.
