Past UW-Platteville in WIAC Quarterfinals
UW-Stevens Point
defeated UW-Platteville in the quarterfinals of the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament for the sixth straight year
with a 9-0 victory Tuesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
Andrea
Oswald matched her season total with three goals and also had an assist to
lead the Pointers, who are now 15-0-2. Molly Cady also had two goals and
an assist and Lori Dunning scored the first two goals of her career in the
first half.
Kelly Fink,
who leads the Pointers with 20 goals, failed to score a goal for just the
fifth time this season, but did tie a WIAC tournament single-match record
with three assists.
The
Pointers held a 48-0 advantage in shots as UW-Platteville goalie Amy
Shuman tied a WIAC tournament record with 25 saves, including 17 in the
second half. Of UW-Stevens Point�s 26 second half shots, 22 were on
goal.
The
Pointers are the five-team defending tournament champions and will host
the semifinals and finals for the fourth straight year. UW-Stevens Point
will take on fourth-seeded UW-River Falls in the semifinals Friday at 11
a.m. Second-seeded UW-Eau Claire meets third-seeded UW-Oshkosh in the
other semifinal at 2 p.m. The championship is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
