Pointers Down UW-Whitewater to Set NCAA Unbeaten Streak Record

The UW-Stevens Point womens soccer team remained red hot with an 8-0 win over UW-Whitewater Saturday, raising the Pointers' season record to 8-0 and extending their WIAC unbeaten streak to an NCAA Division III record 48 matches.

The Pointers are ranked third in the NCAA Division III rankings and have now won 24 of their last 25 matches. UW-Stevens Point set the Division III record for consecutive conference matches unbeaten, passing the mark of 47 by Mary Washington (Va.), which accomplished the feat from 1995-2000. UW-Stevens Points only loss to a WIAC opponent was in the 1996 conference championship match to UW-La Crosse. Prior to the loss, UW-Stevens Point was unbeaten in 45 consecutive WIAC matches. The Pointers also hold the Division III record for most consecutive victories against conference opponents with 48 straight wins.

Saturday, the Pointers outshot the Warhawks 37-3 and have now outshot their past four opponents by an incredible 161-6 margin, while outscoring those opponents 34-0.

UW-Stevens Point scored an own goal to open the scoring before Andrea Oswald scored for a 2-0 lead. Molly Cady and Emma Porter scored 46 seconds apart in the final three minutes of the first half for a 4-0 halftime lead.

Kelly Fink scored goals just 1:34 apart early in the second half, while Alyssa Souza and Mickey Jacob finished the scoring for the Pointers. Porter assisted on the final two goals. Brianna Hyslop stopped all three UW-Whitewater shots.

UW-Stevens Point will host UW-Eau Claire Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a WIAC match.
