Pointers Reach 7-0 for First Time in School History

The UW-Stevens Point womens soccer team upped its record to 7-0 overall, marking the best start in school history, with a 12-0 win over UW-Superior Wednesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

The Pointers are ranked third in the NCAA Division III rankings and have now won 23 of their last 24 matches. UW-Stevens Point is also 3-0 in the WIAC and tied the Division III record for consecutive conference matches unbeaten, equaling the mark of 47 by Mary Washington (Va.), which accomplished the feat from 1995-2000. All 47 matches in the Pointers streak, which includes conference tournament matches, are victories. UW-Stevens Points only loss to a WIAC opponent was in the 1996 conference championship match to UW-La Crosse.

Andrea Spiel and Kim Reese, who prepped at Stevens Point Area Senior High, joined Bruce by scoring second half goals. Melissa Becker had two assists for the Pointers.

The Pointers outshot the Yellowjackets 45-0 and have allowed just seven shot attempts in their last four matches.

UW-Stevens Point will play at UW-Whitewater Saturday at 1 p.m. in a WIAC match.
