Pointers Complete Tenth Straight
Unbeaten WIAC Season
For the tenth consecutive year the UW-Stevens Point women�s
soccer team completed its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
season with an undefeated record, posting a 4-1 win at UW-Stout on a
frigid Tuesday night at Nelson Field.
The Pointers are now 12-1 overall and won their fifth straight WIAC
title with an 8-0 conference mark. UW-Stevens Point outscored its eight
conference opponents 46-2 this season. The Pointers are now 71-0-2
all-time in WIAC regular season games and will host every round of next
week�s conference tournament.
Kelly Fink scored two goals for the Pointers with assists from
Jenny Bruce on both goals. Fink now has 17 goals in 13 matches this
season.
Fink scored with 10 minutes left in the first half and then scored
again six minutes into the second half. Bruce scored with 30 minutes left
when Mollie Kreibich lofted a ball over the defense and Bruce sprinted
through to knock it in for a 3-0 lead.
The Pointers added another goal with six minutes left when Stevens
Point native Kim Reese made a perfect feed in front of the net to Molly
Cady for an easy score.
UW-Stout scored its only goal on a penalty kick with 3:41 left in
the match.
The Pointers outshot UW-Stout 17-4 and are now 8-0 all-time against
the Blue Devils. UW-Stevens Point will host St. Norbert Thursday at 4 p.m.
and opens conference tournament play Tues., Oct. 23 against UW-Platteville
at 3 p.m.
