Balanced Attack Leads Pointers Past
UW-River Falls
Eight different players scored goals and UW-Stevens Point held
UW-River Falls without a shot for the second straight year as the Pointers
rolled past the Falcons 8-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference women�s soccer match Saturday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
UW-Stevens Point held just a 2-0 halftime lead, despite outshooting
the Falcons 19-0 in the first 45 minutes. Jenny Bruce fed Molly Cady for
the first goal 4:47 into the match and then scored herself off a cross by
Andrea Oswald at the 27:40 mark.
Kelly Fink scored an unassisted goal at the 50:26 mark and then the
Pointers took control with three goals over a span of less than four
minutes. Oswald scored the first goal off a cross by Cady and then
assisted on the second goal by feeding Mickey Jacob for a header. Just 47
seconds later, Rochelle Menard scored from 20 yards out for a 6-0 lead.
Alyssa Souza and Emma Porter finished the scoring for the Pointers, who
played their first match in 10 days after having three consecutive
postponements.
UW-Stevens
Point, which is ranked third in the NCAA Division III rankings, outshot
UW-River Falls 41-0 for the match after outshooting the Falcons 53-0 last
season.
The Pointers host Edgewood College in a rematch of last season�s
Division III first round on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
