Delivers UW-Stevens Point Another WIAC Tournament Championship

was the hero of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women�s
soccer championship match for the third straight year, scoring the lone goal
in UW-Stevens Point�s 1-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire Saturday at the
Pointer Soccer Bowl in Stevens Point.
Jacob headed
in a corner kick by Jenny Bruce at the 23:24 mark of the first half for the
only goal of the match. She also scored the game-winner in the first half of
the Pointers� 2-0 title match win over UW-Eau Claire last year and set up
the winning goal with an assist in a 1-0 overtime victory against UW-La
Crosse in 1999. The goal was Jacob�s fourth of the season and first since
Sept. 29. Bruce, who celebrated her 21st birthday Saturday, tied a WIAC
tournament record with five assists in the playoffs
The title was UW-Stevens Point�s fifth
straight and ninth in 10 years. UW-Stevens Point also clinched its fifth
straight NCAA Division III tournament berth and eighth in nine years. Seven
of the nine WIAC tournament titles have come over UW-Eau Claire, which has
now lost 12 straight to the Pointers.
The victory
also tied the NCAA all-divisions conference winning streak as the Pointers
won their 55th consecutive WIAC match. UW-Stevens Point tied the record held
by North Carolina from 1994 to 2000. The Pointers are now 27-1 in WIAC
tournament matches, having outscored opponents 115-8 in the history of the
tournament.
For the season, UW-Stevens Point is now 17-1 overall
and ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III rankings. UW-Stevens Point has now
won 18 straight home matches and eight straight overall, outscoring
opponents 32-1 over the span.
UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 23-9,
including an 8-1 margin in the second half. Pointers� goalie Brianna
Hyslop made six saves � all in the first half.
