Women's Soccer Completes Another Undefeated WIAC Season

     For the ninth straight year the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's soccer team completed an undefeated season in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after beating UW-Platteville 6-0 Wednesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

     The Pointers are now 63-0-2 all-time in WIAC regular season matches, including a perfect   8-0 record and conference championship this season. UW-Stevens Point ran its winning streak to 32 straight conference wins since tying UW-La Crosse in the 1996 season finale.

     The victory Wednesday was the Pointers' eighth straight this season and their sixth shutout in the past seven matches. UW-Stevens Point is now 14-4 overall and completes its regular season Saturday by hosting St. Mary's in a non-conference match at 1 p.m..

     Marie Muhvic posted three goals and an assist to lead the Pointers, including two goals and an assist in the first half as the Pointers took a 3-0 halftime lead. Jenny Bruce scored the first goal for the Pointers and Andrea Spiel and Andrea Oswald added second half tallies. Oswald also had two assists and Spiel notched one assist.

     The Pointers outshot UW-Platteville 32-0, marking the third time in eight matches this season the Pointers have held a conference opponent without a shot attempt. UW-Stevens Point outscored its eight WIAC opponents by a total of 52-3 this season.

     The Pointers will be the top seed for the WIAC tournament and could face UW-Platteville again next week in the quarterfinals Tuesday at 3 p.m.
