   UW-Stevens Point dropped a pair of games at UW-Oshkosh, but bounced back with a four-game sweep of UW-Stout during a busy weekend that included six games in three days. The Pointers have six more games this week, playing a doubleheader Tuesday at St. Norbert and four games over the weekend at UW-Platteville.

   The Pointers lost to UW-Oshkosh 5-4 in the opening game as Nat Richter (Green Bay, WI) hit a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth, but the Titans rallied for two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning. UW-Oshkosh then took the second game 12-6.

   UW-Stevens Point beat UW-Stout 7-4 and 12-11 on Saturday, scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth in the second game. The winning run came home on a bases loaded walk by Jake Frombach (Stratford, WI), but the outcome wasn�t determined until Sunday morning when the Pointers won a protest after a baserunner was originally ruled out for not immediately advancing to the next base. UW-Stevens Point completed the sweep with 10-9 and 14-4 wins on Sunday.

   Steve Wiczek (Stevens Point, WI) continued his torrid hitting stretch by hitting .577 (15-for-26) with four doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI�s over the weekend. He is now hitting .556 with six home runs and 25 RBI�s for the season. Chuck Brehm (Spencer, WI) had four home runs in the sweep over UW-Stout and drove in seven runs for the week. Matt Simonson (Plover, WI) had a complete game win in the first game against UW-Stout, matching a career high with eight strikeouts.

The Pointers picked up two wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday and open their conference and home seasons this week with a pair of doubleheaders.

    Kelly Jablonski (Stevens Point, WI) threw the 11th no-hitter in school history during an 8-0 five inning win in the second game. The only batter who reached base came on a catcher�s interference call in the fourth inning. The Pointers had 10 hits in the win as Jenny Feidt (Kimberly, WI) was three-for-three with a home runs and a double. Rebekah Bauer (Stevens Point, WI) was two-for-three with a two-run single in the first inning.

In a 10-1 opening game win, winning pitcher Stephanie Anderson (Milwaukee, WI) slugged her first two career home runs as the Pointers scored in every inning and rolled to the win. Mandy Jellish (Kaukauna, WI) was three-for-four and Feidt had two doubles. Chelsea McIlquham (Sun Prairie, WI), Nikki Schomer (Marinette, WI) and Laura Zierler (Kaukauna, WI) each added two hits.

The Pointers play their conference opener on Thursday at UW-Platteville and then take on Edgewood on Friday in their home opener. The Edgewood games were postponed from Saturday.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

UW-Stevens Point hosts its only home outdoor meet of the year this weekend when the Pointers take part in the Coldman Invitational on Saturday at Colman Field. Field events start at 10:30 am and running events at 11 a.m.

The women�s team was second and the men were third of four teams over the weekend at the North Central Invitational.

The women had five individual champions in addition to the 4x400-meter relay team that won in 4:01.50. Marie Burrows (Menomonee Falls, WI) claimed the 200-meter dash in 25.75 seconds, Katie Simo (Appleton, WI) won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.14, Jenna Mitchler (Kaukauna, WI) won the 800-meter run in 2:19.60 and Teresa Stanley (Whitewater, WI) captured the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:21.09.

Bethany Richter (Green Bay, WI) was the only field event winner, taking the javelin in 121 feet, 9.5 inches. Julia Slabosheski (Princeton, WI) had an NCAA provisional mark while placing second in the discus at 136 feet, nine inches.

The men�s team had three champions with Cory Christnovich (Neenah, WI) winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.33 seconds, Jake Rhyner (Medford, WI) claiming the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:43.38 and Kent Hutchison (Green Bay, WI) taking the javelin in 156 feet, 8.5 inches.
