TRACK AND FIELD

May 27-29 � at NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships (Decatur, Ill.)

The Pointers conclude the 2003-04 sports season this weekend at the NCAA Division III outdoor championships in Decatur, Ill. UW-Stevens Point has six men�s qualifiers in seven events and six individual women�s qualifiers in six events along with one relay.

Andrew Schliepp (Redgranite, WI) has the nation�s best qualifying mark in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.38 seconds. Curt Johnson (DeForest, WI) is entered in both the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters, while Mark LaLonde (Park Falls, WI) is also taking part in the 10,000 meters. Matt Legel (Crystal Lake, IL) will participate in the 800-meter run and Mark Wierzba (Rosholt, WI) is in the hammer throw. Josh VanderVelden (Kimberly, WI) qualified last weekend in the shot put after a throw of 52 feet, two inches at the North Central Invitational.

Jenna Mitchler (Kaukauna, WI) brings the nation�s third-best time in the 800-meter run and Julia Slabosheski (Princeton, WI) has the third-best discus mark entering the women�s meet. Megan Craig (Bangor, WI) has the fourth-best 1500-meter run time and will compete in the event along with Leah Herlache (Green Bay, WI). Marie Burrows (Menomonee Falls, WI) will compete in the 400-meter dash and Ashleigh Potuznik (Baraboo, WI) qualified in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Friday at North Central with a time of 11:00.63.

The women�s 4x400 relay qualified on Friday at North Central with a time of 3:55.70. Mitchler and Burrows will be joined by Rhea Owens (Racine, WI) and Katie Simo (Appleton, WI).
