The Pointers completed the regular season by taking three of four games from UW-Platteville over the weekend and now prepare for this weekend�s conference tournament in Whitewater.

The tournament features the same four teams for the fifth straight year as the Pointers are the third seed and meet second-seeded UW-Oshkosh in the first round. Top seed UW-Whitewater takes on fourth seed UW-La Crosse in the other game. The tournament is double elimination and the winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament.

UW-Stevens Point beat UW-Platteville 13-11 in Friday�s first game before losing 5-1 in the second game. Saturday�s games were rained out, but the Pointers posted 7-4 and 8-0 wins on Sunday. Earlier in the week, the Pointers lost a non-conference doubleheader to Marian 10-9 and 9-6.

Matt Peetz (Spring Green, WI) was 10-for-22 with eight RBI�s for the week and became the school�s all-time leader in hits and doubles. He is now hitting .477 for the season and has 195 hits in his career. Matt Polomis (Wausaukee, WI) was nine-for-24 for the week, while Matt Peterson (Plymouth, WI) was eight-for-22. Nat Richter (Green Bay, WI) drove home the go-ahead run in both games on Sunday and was four-for-five in the opener.

Aaron Achterberg (Eau Claire, WI) pitched eight scoreless innings for the win in Sunday�s second game. Kevin Pankow (Oconomowoc, WI) picked up two saves in the UW-Platteville series and Adam Fox (Little Chute, WI) allowed one earned run in seven innings for the week.

    UW-Stevens Point had three men�s individual champions and three women�s champions as both squads placed third at Saturday�s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championships in Eau Claire.

    The Pointer men�s squad totaled 130 points as UW-La Crosse won the meet with 262.5 points and UW-Whitewater was second. The women had 148.5 points, while UW-Oshkosh won the title with 217.17 points and UW-La Crosse was second.

    UW-Stevens Point had two automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Division III championships as Mark LaLonde (Park Falls, WI) won the men�s 10,000-meter run in 30:20.44 and Megan Craig (Bangor, WI) was second in the women�s 1500-meter run in 4:33.98.

    Craig also had a provisional time of 2:15.77 by placing third in the 800-meter run and led three Pointers in the top four finishers of the 1500 meters. Jenna Mitchler (Kaukauna, WI) was third in 4:35.01 and Leah Herlache (Green Bay, WI) was fourth in 4:36.03 as both times were provisional marks. Herlache was also second in the 5000 meters in 18:00.51.

    Nicki Van Gheem (Green Bay, WI) captured the 10,000-meter run in 39:28.32, Marie Burrows (Menomonee Falls, WI) won the 400-meter dash in 57.09 seconds and Becky Clarke (Anitoch, IL) won the javelin at 125 feet, 8.5 inches. Julia Slabosheski (Princeton, WI) was second in the discus at 147 feet, nine inches and the 4x800 meter relay team was second in 9:33.83.

    Andrew Schliepp (Redgranite, WI) had a pair of provisional times for the men, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.50 seconds and placing third in the 400-mter hurdles in 53.61 seconds. Matt Legel (Crystal Lake, IL) was second in the 800-meter dash in 1:52.71 after posting a strong provisional time of 1:51.67 in the prelims. The 4x400 meter relay team had a provisional time of 3:16.67 while finishing third.

    Curt Johnson (DeForest, WI) won the 5000-meter run in 14:54.57, Jake Rhyner (Medford, WI) was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:23.67 and Ryan Shepard (Cornell, WI) was second in the high jump at six feet, 6.75 inches.
