Players of the Week � Apr. 12

Baseball � Position Player

Matt Peetz (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) � The senior third baseman recorded two hits in each game as the Pointers swept a four-game weekend series at UW-La Crosse. Peetz went eight-for-15 (.533), scored six runs and drove in seven against the Eagles. His two-run home run in Thursday's second game gave the Pointers a 3-2 lead which they would extend to a 9-6 victory. In both of Friday's games Peetz started the game-winning rally with a double. He scored the tying run in the eighth inning of game one and the winning run in the ninth inning of game two. For the week, he had three doubles and a home run.

Baseball � Pitcher

Kevin Pankow (Oconomowoc, WI/Oconomowoc) � The junior right-hander won both halves of Friday's doubleheader against UW-La Crosse in relief. Pankow threw the final two innings in game one, striking out two and allowing just one hit, for a 4-3 Pointer victory. In the second game, Pankow entered in the eighth inning and allowed one earned run as the Pointers scored a run in the ninth for a 13-12 win. For the week, Pankow threw six innings in relief, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, striking out five and walking none.

Softball � Position Player

Jenni Van Cuyk (Kimberly, WI/Kimberly) � The sophomore first baseman racked up a .393 batting average over 10 games last week.  Van Cuyk went two-for-two with three runs batted in, as the Pointers completed a sweep of UW-Platteville with an 8-0 victory on Monday. She also went two-for-two, with an RBI double and a stolen base in an 8-0 win over Northland College on Saturday. For the week, Van Cuyk was 11-for-28, with two doubles, two stolen bases and five runs batted in.

Softball � Pitcher

Stephanie Anderson (Milwaukee, WI/King) � The sophomore pitcher threw her first career complete game shutout as a Pointer, blanking UW-Platteville 1-0 on Monday. She also fired a five-inning shut out against Northland College on Saturday. For the week, Anderson went 2-2 with a pair of shutouts.  She had a 1.48 earned run average, striking out 26 hitters in 28.1 innings pitched. She allowed just six earned runs and opponents hit only .175 against her.

Men�s Track Events

Marcus VerDuin (Howards Grove, WI/Howards Grove) � The sophomore sprinter won the 100-meter dash at the Coldman Invitational. VerDuin scorched the track in 11.17 seconds, nipping teammate Cagney Scott by one-hundredth of a second. VerDuin also ran on the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team.

Men�s Field Events

Josh VanderVelden (Kimberly, WI/Kimberly) � The senior thrower claimed first place in the shot put at the Coldman Invitational in Stevens Point this weekend. VanderVelden threw 14.98 meters to win the event by three inches. He also placed seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 38.77 meters.

Women�s Track Events

Jenna Mitchler (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) � The sophomore recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meter run at the Coldman Invitational in Stevens Point. Mitchler ran a personal best time of 17:56.38 to win the event by nearly 30 seconds. The Pointers placed second in the nine-team meet.

Women�s Field Events

Nicole Pooley (Fenninmore, IL/Fennimore) � The sophomore claimed first place in the high jump at the Coldman Invitational. Pooley cleared 1.59 meters to tie with teammate Stephanie Renk, but won the event based on fewer missed attempts. Pooley is just two inches short of the NCAA provisional qualifying height.
