Nechuta, Heuer Named All-Conference, Kraemer Earns Honorable Mention

Three UW-Stevens Point womens basketball players received honors on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference squad.

Sophomore Amanda Nechuta and junior Cassandra Heuer both earned first team all-conference honors, while junior Andrea Kraemer was named honorable mention. Nechuta and Kraemer were also among the five players named to the leagues all-defensive team as well.

UW-Stevens Point finished 22-5 overall and 13-3 in the WIAC. The Pointers placed second in the conference and lost to UW-Oshkosh in the semifinals of the WIAC tournament to miss out on a second straight NCAA Division III tournament berth.

Nechuta, a Mosinee native, led the conference in scoring at 16.3 points per game. She scored at least nine points in every game and became the third Pointer to win a WIAC scoring title, joining Sonja Sorenson and Jessica Ott. Nechuta, who earned her first all-conference honor, also led the team in rebounding at 7.2 per game, and her 2.59 steals per game not only led the team, but ranked second in the conference.

Heuer, a Two Rivers native, finished in the top 10 in the conference in scoring, free throw percentage and steals. She averaged 12.6 points per game, shot 82.9 percent from the line and averaged 2.38 steals per game. Heuer also led the Pointers in three point shots made with 40 for her first all-conference award.

Kraemer, a Waukesha native and Waukesha North graduate, led the conference in assists for the second straight year, averaging 4.0 per game. Kraemer was a first team all-conference performer last season.

UW-Eau Claire senior Kristi Channing was named the conference Player of the Year, while Blugolds coach Tonja Englund was named Coach of the Year.
