Eschenbauch Wins NCAA Division III Title in 35-Pound Weight Throw
Noah Eschenbauch captured his first career NCAA Division III
championship, winning the 35-pound weight throw at Fridays indoor
track and field national meet in Greencastle, Ind.
The senior from Rosholt had a throw of 62 feet, five inches, which was
more than a foot longer than second place finisher Luke Speltz of
Gustavus Adolphus, who had a throw of 61 feet, 1.25 inches.
Eschenbauch is the eighth mens indoor national champion in
UW-Stevens Point history and the first Pointer ever to win the weight
throw event. His winning distance was the fourth longest in the 19-year
history of the event and the longest since Ethan Brooks of Williams
(Mass.) had a throw of 63 feet, 8.75 inches in 1996.
Eschenbauch had his best throw in finals after throwing 61 feet,
6.75 inches in the preliminary round. That throw would also have been
good enough for the national title.
The Pointer men placed seventh in the team standings, qualifying
for the top 10 for the third time in four years. |
