Splits Two More Games on Florida Trip
The UW-Stevens Point softball team earned another doubleheader split
in Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday, losing to Division II Northern Colorado 3-0
before beating the New York University Club team 11-1.
It was the third straight split for the Pointers, though the New York
game does not count on the record, so the Pointers are now 2-3 overall.
UW-Stevens Points Erin Penza pitched a four-hitter against
Northern Colorado as the Bears broke a scoreless tie with all three runs in
the sixth inning. The Pointers managed three hits as Jill Van Wychen, Amy
Schumacher and Lena Hubbard each had singles.
Against New York University, the Pointers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in
the first inning as Amanda Sparks hit a two-run homer. Van Wychen, Casey
Schipferling and Jenni Van Cuyk were all two-for-three.
Karen Guckenberger earned the win with five strikeouts in the
complete game, five-inning effort shortened by the eight-run rule.
The Pointers have a day off Wednesday before playing Buffalo Sate
(N.Y.) and Endicott (Mass.) on Thursday.
