Strmsek Named WIAC Softball Position Player of the Week

UW-Stevens Point freshman outfielder Meagan Strmsek has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball Position Player of the Week after an incredible performance when she finished the week with 13 hits in 14 at-bats.

The Oak Creek native did most of her hitting over the weekend at the Augustana (Ill.) tournament where she went 11-for-12. She also had two hits in her final two at bats against Edgewood on Wednesday. In the only at bat where she didnt get a hit, Strmsek reached on an error. She finished the week with hits in eight consecutive at-bats.

Strmsek is currently hitting .433 for the season and leads the WIAC with 10 doubles and 17 RBIs.

Pointers Host UW-Whitewater in Diamond Showdowns Wednesday

UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater will clash in both baseball and softball on Wednesday in Stevens Point, featuring teams predicted to be at the top of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference races in both sports.

The baseball doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. at University Field and first pitch for the softball twinbill is 3 p.m. across the street at McCarty Field.

In fact, both the Pointers and Warhawks are off to outstanding starts and are nationally ranked in baseball. UW-Stevens Point has won 11 straight games and is ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III with a 12-2-1 record. UW-Whitewater swept a four-game series from UW-Superior over the weekend and is 13-2 overall and ranked 18th in the nation.

The Warhawks were picked to win the WIAC and defending champion UW-Stevens Point was pegged second in the preseason poll. The Warhawks feature Baseball Americas preseason Division III Player of the Year in 6-5 junior lefthander Brady Endl, who is hitting .452 and is likely to pitch one of the two games.

In softball, UW-Stevens Point is 11-7 overall and was picked for second in the WIAC behind UW-Eau Claire. UW-Whitewater is picked for third in the conference and has gotten off to a 9-3-1 start. The matchup features by far the two best hitting teams in the league as UW-Stevens Point is hitting .330 as a team and UW-Whitewater is hitting .349. No other WIAC team is hitting over .310.
