BASEBALL (18-2-1 overall, 11-0 WIAC) April 15 - Home vs. Marian (DH), 1 p.m. (University Field) April 16 - at St. Norbert (DH), 1 p.m. April 17 - Home vs. Lakeland (DH), 1 p.m. (University Field) <http://www.uwsp.edu/athletics/baseball/> The Pointers racked up nine wins over the week to run their winning streak to 17 straight games, which is one short of the school record 18-game streak set in 1999. UW-Stevens Point opened the week by taking three games at UW-Stout on Monday by scores of 10-4, 6-5 and 10-3. The Pointers then rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat conference favorite UW-Whitewater 8-7 on Wednesday and beat the Warhawks 5-1 in the second game. Over the weekend, UW-Stevens Point amassed 60 runs in four games in beating UW-Superior 11-8, 13-1, 22-8 and 14-0. This week, the Pointers have three non-conference doubleheaders as they host Marian on Tuesday, visit St. Norbert on Wednesday and host Lakeland on Thursday. The games with Lakeland feature a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Midwest Regional championship game that the Muskies won 5-4 in 10 innings to advance to the World Series. Junior Ryan Jones (Eau Claire, WI) had a big week, hitting .543 with 19 hits in 35 at bats, including four doubles and five home runs. Joe Waksmonski (Schofield, WI) hit .474 with 18 hits in 38 at bats and five home runs. Both players had 17 RBI's and 21 runs scored. Sophomore Jason DiGise (Monroe, WI) pitched his first career shutout in the fourth game against UW-Superior and also had strong relief efforts against UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater. Sophomore J.C. Reinke (Bonduel, WI) also had five and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief during the week. SOFTBALL (16-9 overall, 5-4 WIAC) April 15 - at UW-Oshkosh (DH), 3 p.m. <http://www.uwsp.edu/athletics/softball/> The Pointers won five of seven games last week - all at home against conference opponents. UW-Stevens Point opened the week with its second doubleheader sweep of UW-Whitewater in 21 years, beating the Warhawks 2-0 and 7-0 as Karen Guckenberger (South Milwaukee, WI) had a two-hitter in the first game and a no-hitter in the nightcap. Over the weekend, the Pointers went 3-2 at the WIAC Cluster at Zenoff Park. They lost to UW-La Crosse 5-2 on a homer in the bottom of the seventh and then beat UW-Stout 4-2 on Saturday. The following day, the Pointers beat UW-Superior 6-0 as Guckenberger threw a one-hitter and beat UW-River Falls 4-3 as Guckenberger allowed two hits over seven full innings of relief. They also lost to UW-Eau Claire 2-0. Guckenberger pitched 36 1/3 innings during a five-day span. She won four games and had a save. She has allowed three hits or less in eight of her last nine full games. Senior Jill Van Wychen (Kaukauna, WI) extended her WIAC record hitting streak to 25 straight games and is the 16th player in NCAA Division III history to reach the mark. She hit .583 (14-for-24) for the week and was four-for-four in wins over UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout. UW-Stevens Point plays at UW-Oshkosh for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m. TRACK AND FIELD April 19 - at Augustana (Ill.) Meet of Champions http://www.uwsp.edu/athletics/track/ The Pointer women won the team title and the Pointer men placed third on Saturday at the North Central Invitational in Naperville, Ill. The women totaled 192 team points, while UW-Oshkosh was second with 162 points. The UW-Stevens Point men's team placed third with 153.5 points as UW-Oshkosh won the 10-team meet with 208.5 points and North Central was second with 172.5. Jody Butkowski (Stevens Point, WI) won the triple jump at 11.29 meters and finished second in the 200-meter dash in 26.65 seconds. Kim Klosno (Stevens Point, WI) was the Pointer women's team's only other individual winner with a time of 1:00.32 in the 400-meter dash. The 4x100 relay team won in 49.70 seconds. Second place finishers for the women were Tara Schmitt (Brookfield, WI) in the 100-meter dash at 13.18 seconds, Lisa Brownie (Wisconsin Rapids, WI) in the long jump at 5.10 meters, Amy Frey (Spencer, WI) in the triple jump at 10.56 meters, Amanda Nechuta (Mosinee, WI) in the shot put at 13.15 meters and Julia Slabosheski in the discus at 39.78 meters. The 4x400 meter relay team was also second in 4:05.58. On the men's side, Noah Eschenbauch (Rosholt, WI) won the shot put in 15.17 meters and the hammer throw in 58.18 meters. Other winners were Cody Kronberg (Seymour, WI) in the high jump at 6.77 meters and the 4x400 relay team in 3:21.45. Second place men's finishers were Andrew Schliepp (Redgranite, WI) in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.31 seconds, Eric Fischer (Appleton, WI) in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:23.84, Jeremiah Rolfs (Iola, WI) in the discus at 47.86 meters, Mark Wierzba (Rosholt, WI) in the hammer throw at 52.06 meters and Kent Hutchison (Green Bay, WI) in the javelin at 51.22 meters.
