Baseball - Position PlayerJoe Waksmonski (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest) - The junior catcher led the Pointers to a 7-1 record during a spring break trip through Tennessee and Indiana, and a 7-2-1 record overall. Through 10 games, Waksmonski is batting .529 with 18 hits, including four doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI. On March 22, Waksmonski led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to give the Pointers a 2-1 victory over Rose-Hulman. He had a pair of three-hit games against Division I Austin Peay State and Lipscomb. Baseball - Pitcher Jeff Pieper (Wausau, WI/West) - The senior pitcher was 2-0 including a complete game win and a tie in his first three appearances this season. Pieper went the distance against Rose-Hulman on March 22, giving up just one unearned run and seven hits while striking out five. On March 10, Pieper threw seven innings in a 3-3 tie against St. Thomas at the Metrodome. Pieper gave up six hits and struck out three in that game. For the week, Pieper gave up 10 earned runs on 25 hits, struck out 10 and walked just three hitters. Softball - Position Player Jill Van Wychen (Kaukauna, WI/Freedom) - The senior outfielder batted .447 as the Pointers went 6-4 on their annual trip to Fort Myers, Florida. Batting in the lead-off spot Van Wychen racked up 17 hits including a double and a triple. She was also a threat on the base paths with 11 runs scored and seven stolen bases, including three in a single game. Softball - Pitcher Karen Guckenberger (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) - The senior ace went 3-2 for the week in Florida. Guckenberger defeated Endicott (Mass.) and finished her trip with a pair of victories over Southern Maine. Guckenberger struck out 29 batters in 32 and a third innings pitched on the trip. |
