Pieper, Van Wychen Land First WIAC Player of the Week Honors

     UW-Stevens Point seniors Jeff Pieper and Jill Van Wychen were among the first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball and softball Players of the Week this season after their performances on the Pointers� spring trips.

     Pieper, a former Wausau West High School standout, was the baseball Pitcher of the Week after posting a 2-0 record and a complete game no decision in a tie against St. Thomas (Minn.). Pieper went five innings for a victory over Division I Austin Peay and also pitched seven innings allowing one unearned run in a 2-1 win over Rose-Hulman (Ind.). For the week, he threw 19 innings and struck out 10 while walking three.

     Van Wychen, a Kaukauna native and Freedom High School graduate, picked up where she left off last season with a .447 batting average over 10 games last week to earn softball Position Player of the Week accolades. The senior centerfielder led the WIAC with a .439 batting average last season and went 17-for-38 last week. She scored 11 runs and was seven-for-seven on stolen base attempts.
