National
Champion Womens Basketball Team Announces 2002 Recruits Defending NCAA Division III
womens basketball national champion UW-Stevens Point has announced its
recruiting class for the upcoming 2002-03 season. Included in the class is
Rosholt native Amy Scott, who played last season at Division II UW-Parkside.
The other additions to the Pointer team are Kristi Miller, a 5-9
guard from Waterloo, and Cassandra Schultz, a 5-8 guard from
Hartford. Were very excited about
these three players choosing to attend UW-Stevens Point, Pointers
coach Shirley Egner said. We believe they will be great additions to our
program and we feel each of them can contribute different attributes to our
team. Scott, a 6-2 center, will be among the candidates to replace another former Rosholt High School standout in Kari Groshek, who was a first-team All-American center as a senior for the Pointers last season. Scott played in 18 games last
season at UW-Parkside, averaging 1.2 points and 1.5 points in 6.9 minutes
per game. She averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per game as a senior,
while earning first-team All-Central Wisconsin Conference (Large) honors and
honorable mention Associated Press All-State accolades. Miller was a first-team
All-Conference performer and team Most Valuable Player the past two seasons.
She led her Waterloo High School team in both scoring and assists this past
season and is a two-year team captain. Miller, a state medalist in the pole
vault, is also her class valedictorian and a member of the schools
National Honor Society. Schultz was the Most Valuable
Player of her Hartford High School team that finished 20-3 overall. She was
a first-team All-Wisconsin Little Ten Conference performer, averaging 12.9
points and 5.4 assists per game. Schultz was the Washington County Player of
the Year and an honorable mention Associated Press All-State selection. She
also has been selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches
Association All-Star game. UW-Stevens Point is coming off
its second national championship season in school history, having finished
30-3 overall. |
