UW-Stevens Point Repeats Sixth Place Finish in Sears Director's Cup
For the second straight year, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point achieved its highest-ever finish and point total in the Sears
Director�s Cup standings with a sixth place finish among 413 NCAA Division
III schools. The standings measure the top overall athletic program in the
NCAA Division III.
UW-Stevens Point ranked behind the same five schools as last season,
finishing as the highest-placing Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference school and the highest non-East Coast school in the standings.
UW-Stevens Point totaled 656.5 points, which was easily its most ever,
surpassing last year�s total of 538 points. The Pointers finished in the
top 10 for the fourth time in five years. Points are awarded based on finishes in NCAA tournament competition.
UW-Stevens Point qualified for NCAA tournaments in 13 of its 20 sports,
winning a national championship in women�s basketball and finishing fourth
in men�s outdoor track and field. The Pointers also fell one game short of
the national quarterfinals in football, women�s soccer and baseball. Other top finishes were an 11th place by the women�s swimming and diving
team and 12th place performances from wrestling and women�s outdoor track
and field. The WIAC had three of the top nine finishers as UW-Oshkosh was eighth with
552 points and UW-La Crosse was ninth with 512 points. Williams (Mass.) easily won its fourth straight overall title with 989
points. Ithaca (N.Y.) was second after finishing fifth last year, while
College of New Jersey was third for the second straight year. Middlebury
(Vt.) was fourth and Emory (Ga.) placed fifth. |
