All UW-Stevens Point Athletic Events Cancelled For This WeekendIn
light of the tragic events of terrorism that have occurred in the United
States earlier this week, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has
decided to cancel its participation in all of its scheduled athletic events
for this weekend. Saturdays
football game between the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the
University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Goerke
Field is the most recognizable event to be cancelled. The
teams were scheduled to participate in the 15th annual Spud Bowl,
which is a community event recognizing the areas potato industry. All
Spud Bowl festivities have been cancelled as well. No decision regarding a
make-up date has been made. UW-Stevens
Point has also cancelled its womens golf home meet scheduled for this
Saturday and Sunday at Tree Acres Golf Course in Plover, the womens
volleyball teams tournament this weekend at St. Benedict in St. Joseph,
Minn., the womens soccer teams game at University of Chicago on Sunday,
the mens and womens cross country teams meet at UW-Oshkosh on
Saturday and the women's tennis tournament at UW-La Crosse. This
decision is based on our deep concern for the tragic events that have
occurred earlier this week in our country and our sincere compassion for the
victims, family and friends, UW-Stevens Point Chancellor Thomas George
said. |
