Highest National Finish in History
Thursday's
Summary:
A
pair of relays in the top four of their respective finals pushed the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women�s swimming and diving team
into sixth place after the first day of the NCAA Division III championships
Thursday in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Pointers received a third place finish from their 400 medley
relay and a fourth place finish from the 200 freestyle relay to amass 65
team points. Denison (Ohio) leads after the first day with 189 points.
Alissa Bartz, Mary Thone, Christine Sammons and Amy Rockwell swam the
400 medley relay in 3:57.54 for the Pointers, while Bartz, Rockwell, Erica
Janssen and Jen Randall swam a time of 1:37.60 in the 200 freestyle.
Randall finished 14th in the 50 freestyle with a time of
24.62 as the only individual to score points for the Pointers. Bartz
finished 17th in the 50 freestyle preliminaries as the top 16
places score points.
Friday's
Summary:
Relays
were again the catalyst for the UW-Stevens Point women�s swimming and
diving team as the Pointers had two more relays earn points and put the
Pointers in eighth place after two days at the NCAA Division III
championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
UW-Stevens Point had two relays in the top four places on Thursday
and had another on Friday as the 200 medley relay placed fourth with a time
of 1:48.78. Alissa Bartz, Christine Sammons, Mary Thone and Jen Randall swam
the event.
The Pointers� 800 freestyle relay placed 12th overall
with a time of 7:51.59. Randall, Erica Janssen, Thone and Amy Rockwell swam
for UW-Stevens Point.
The only individual scorer for the Pointers was Sammons, who placed
10th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.05.
The Pointers are in position to better their all-time best finish of
11th place from last season, entering Saturday�s final day of
competition. UW-Stevens Point has 112 team points, while Denison (Ohio)
leads with 416 points.

Summary:
The
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women�s swimming and diving team
achieved its highest national finish in school history this weekend by
finishing eighth overall at the NCAA Division III championships in Buffalo,
N.Y.
The Pointers amassed 146 team points, including 124 points through
five relay teams to finish eighth. Denison (Ohio) totaled 588 points to
claim the national title, edging Kenyon (Ohio) by 12 points. Kenyon had won
17 straight national championships.
UW-Stevens Point�s eighth place finish bettered its previous best
of 11th place from last season.
UW-Stevens Point�s fourth All-American relay of the weekend
achieved eighth place on Saturday in the 400 freestyle as Alissa Bartz,
Erica Janssen, Amy Rockwell and Jen Randall swam a time of 3:35.65.
Christine Sammons also finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a time
of 2:26.81.
The men�s championships will be held March 15-17 in Buffalo.
