Hoelzel and Moses to Play Basketball at
UW-Stevens Point
A pair of
first-team all-conference players from Eastern Wisconsin have informed
UW-Stevens Point mens basketball coach Bob Semling of their intentions to
attend the school in the fall and play for the Pointers.
Scott Hoelzel, a
6-5 forward from Kaukauna High School, and Matt Moses, a 6-2 guard from Fond
du Lac Springs High School, both plan to take their talents to UW-Stevens
Point.
Hoelzel, a
first-team all-Fox Valley Association performer as a senior, led his team
with 13.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He was selected to
play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association state all-star game in
June. An honor roll student, Hoelzel was a second-team all-conference
selection as a junior and also qualified for the state track and field meet
in the high jump.
Scotts strength
is his overall completeness, Semling said. He has the ability to make
plays on both ends of the floor. Offensively, Scott will surprise you with
his ability to get angles on quick short drives to the basket. Hes also
very unselfish and looks to make plays for his teammates.
Scott is one of
the most versatile players we have had with his tremendous athleticism and
ability to handle the ball and make decisions in the open court, Kaukauna
coach Mike Schalow said. He is very coachable and highly respected by
coaches and his peers.
Moses
was last seasons East Central Flyway Conference Player of the Year and
earned honorable mention all-state honors. An honor roll student, he was a
two-time first-team all-conference performer and team captain. Moses was
also the conferences offensive Player of the Year in football as a wide
receiver and helped the Ledgers reach the WIAA Division 6 state title game
in 2003 and 2005.
Matt is
a very explosive and strong guard with outstanding skills, Semling said.
Matt was the guard we coveted throughout the year. He is an outstanding
young man who will be a great teammate and an outstanding representative of
our program.
Matt is
a team player in all facets of the game and is an outstanding leader with a
great work ethic, Springs coach Kyle Krueger said. Matt can shoot the
three, finish a drive with a dunk or hit the pull-up jumper. He is almost
unselfish to a fault.
Both
Hoelzel and Moses plan to major in Business at UW-Stevens Point.
UW-Stevens Point was 17-10 overall last season and placed third in the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pointers, who won
back-to-back NCAA Division III championships in 2004 and 2005, own a 217-66
record over the past 10 seasons, which is the best of any conference school. |
