Hayes Receives
First-Team Academic All-District Award
UW-Stevens Point football player Mike Hayes has
been honored as a first-team All-District defensive lineman on the ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-American teams selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Hayes, a Beaver Dam native, was also an All-District selection in wrestling
and earned second-team Academic All-American honors. He is now eligible for
Academic All-American accolades in football and could become the first
UW-Stevens Point athlete to earn academic honors in two different sports
besides cross country and track.
Hayes carries a 3.71 grade point average in
Biology. He has played in all 39 games during his career and has started
every game as a junior and senior. This season, he ranks fifth on the team
with 40 tackles and second on the squad with 7.5 tackles for loss. Hayes was
also a two-time All-American heavyweight wrestler.
