UW-Stevens Point senior Cody Childs has been selected to the Aztec Bowl Division III all-star game and will participate on the 48-member United States squad on Dec. 16 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Picture (115x173, 40.9Kb)     UW-Stevens Point has had among the most players selected to the game in its nine-year history as Childs is the seventh Pointers player to receive the invitation. The Division III all-stars will take on the Mexican national team and will be coached by former college football coach Bill Manlove. The game is sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association.

Childs, a Poynette native, was a first-team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection for his fourth career all-conference selection. He led the league in all-purpose yards at 134.5 yards per game and his 906 yards rushing was the third-highest single-season total in school history. Childs ranks second in school history with 38 career touchdowns and fourth with 193 career receptions. His 1,929 career rushing yards ranks fifth in Pointers history.

Childs is the second offensive player in UW-Stevens Point history to play in the game, joining quarterback Scott Krause, who was selected in 2003. The other Pointer Aztec Bowl selections were defensive lineman Clint Bakken in 2004, defensive back Dillon Maney in 2002, defensive end Paul Schmitt in 2001, defensive lineman Mark Fetzer in 1999 and linebacker Clint Kriewaldt in 1998.
