Robinson Named to
First-Team All-WIAC Squad
Junior defensive lineman Dan Robinson (pictured) earned first-team honors as
four UW-Stevens Point athletes were named to the All-Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football team and four others earned
honorable mention.
A trio of juniors were named to the second team as
running back Cody Childs, offensive lineman Jon Vissers and linebacker
Brandon Czys all earned honors. Those named honorable mention included
senior safeties J.J. Chaudoir and Jared Flesch, senior punter Ryan Prochnow
and junior center Jake Nantell.
UW-Stevens Point suffered four losses in its first
five games to teams ranked in the top 10 of the country at one point of the
year as the Pointers finished 4-6 overall. UW-Stevens Point won its final
two games to finish 3-4 in the WIAC.
Robinson, a Florence native, ranked second in the
WIAC with seven sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. He led the Pointers and
ranked third in the conference with 95 total tackles, including 60 solo
stops while recording at least seven tackles in every game. It was
Robinson�s first season as a starter after totaling seven tackles, including
three sacks, all of last season.
Childs, a Poynette native, led the team in
all-purpose yardage while ranking second in rushing, receiving, punt returns
and kickoff returns. His 100.6 all-purpose yards per game ranked fifth in
the WIAC, while his 45 receptions was fifth-best in the conference.
Vissers, a Schofield native and D.C. Everest High
School graduate, started all 10 games on the offensive line. He started the
first six games at right tackle before having to move to right guard for the
final four games because of injuries to other players.
Czys, a Mauston native, ranked fifth in the league
in tackles with 81 for an average of 9.0 per game after missing the final
game of the year with an injury. Czys had 33 solo tackles and 48 assisted
stops. He also forced two fumbles to rank second in the league.
Chaudoir, a Green Bay Preble High School graduate,
ranked fourth on the team with 64 tackles, including 40 solo stops while
starting every game at strong safety.
Flesch, a Pulaski native, had the best season of
his career, ranking third on the team with 81 tackles, including 54 solo
stops. He also had a team-high three interceptions and started every game at
free safety. Flesch was also an honorable mention pick in 2003.
Prochnow, a Green Bay Preble High School graduate,
was fourth in the league in punting average at 37.3 yards per kick and was
at his best in short yardage punts, putting 23 of his 55 kicks inside the
20-yard line with just three touchbacks. He earned honorable mention honors
for the second straight year.
Nantell, a former Stevens Point Area Senior High
standout, started the season on defense, but moved to center in the third
game of the season and started the final eight games on the offensive line. |
