UW-Stevens Point Ranked
in Preseason National Football Polls
UW-Stevens Point
earned national rankings in two NCAA Division III preseason football polls,
while two of the Pointers� first three home opponents are also among the top
teams in the country.
The Pointers are
ranked ninth by D3football.com and 19th by Street and Smith�s. UW-Stevens
Point returns 17 starters from last year�s team that finished 8-2 overall
and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
UW-Stevens Point
will host two other nationally ranked opponents early in the season with
games against Linfield (Ore.) on Sept. 18 and UW-La Crosse on Oct. 2.
Linfield is ranked third by D3football.com and fifth by Street and Smith�s.
UW-La Crosse is ranked second by Street and Smith�s and fourth by
D3football.com.
The Pointers open
the season at home against Tri-State (Ind.) on Sept. 11. Players report for
training camp on Wed., August 18 with the first practice slated for Thurs.,
Aug. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Ruland Named Third-Team
Preseason All-American
UW-Stevens Point
senior offensive tackle Cliff Ruland has been tabbed a third-team preseason
All-American by Football Gazette.
Ruland, a Wonewoc
native, stands 6-foot-2, 310 pounds and was a first-team All-Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection while starting all 10 games a
year ago. He is the only returning first-team All-Conference performer among
the Pointers� nine returning offensive starters.
UW-La Crosse
offensive lineman Andrew McGlenn was a second-team pick and the only other
WIAC player to earn preseason accolades. |
