Pointers Roll Past Warhawks With 60-Point Effort

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point scored on five of its first six possessions and posted its biggest point total ever against UW-Whitewater with a 60-30 triumph over the Warhawks Saturday in Stevens Point.

Pointers quarterback Scott Krause was 22-for-28 passing for 390 yards and five touchdowns as well as two rushing touchdowns. Junior tight end Ross Adamczak had career-best numbers with seven catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns as the Pointers posted the biggest point total the Warhawks have allowed since 1984.

UW-Stevens Point, ranked 22nd in Division III, snapped UW-Whitewaters six-game winning streak and moved to within one game of the first place Warhawks. UW-Whitewater is ranked 13th nationally and is now 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Stevens Point is 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Pointers, who converted nine of their first 12 third down plays, outgained the Warhawks 545-241, holding UW-Whitewater to 26 yards rushing on 24 carries.

It was the Pointers highest point total in a WIAC game since a 62-34 win over UW-Stout in 1998. UW-Stevens Point has now scored 56 points or more three times this season for the first time ever.

UW-Stevens Points Chase Kostichka and Ryan Bentley each had interceptions on the Warhawks first two drives as the Pointers built a 27-0 first quarter lead. Krause hit Tony Romano for a six-yard score after Kostichkas pick and Childs scored from two yards out after Bentleys interception. Krause hit Romano for a 27-yard score with 4:09 left in the quarter and Krause ran for a six-yard score himself.

Krause hit Adamczak for 44-yard and 18-yard touchdowns in the second quarter as the Pointers extended the lead to 39-0 at halftime, outgaining the Warhawks 320-75 in the first 30 minutes.

UW-Whitewaters Derek Stanley returned the second half kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, but the Pointers drove 65 yards in eight plays and Krause dove to the pylon for a five-yard score to push the lead back to 46-7.

Mark Blau added a one-yard score early in the fourth quarter, but again the Pointers answered as Krause hit Adamczak for a 61-yard pass play to set up a 22-yard touchdown strike to Romano. Romano finished with seven catches for 86 yards and three scores.

Justin Jacobs found Sean Erner for a 28-yard touchdown for UW-Whitewater before Pointer running back Eric Reible added a 19-yard scoring run for a 60-22 lead. Reible finished with 96 yards in his first career start in place of regular injured starters Cory Flisakowski and Jason VanderVelden.

Eric Stauss caught a 50-yard touchdown off a deflected pass for the final scoring. Jacobs finished with 150 yards on 12-for-21 passing for the Warhawks.
