Krause Thows Seven TD's in Win Over Butler
Box Score
Scott Krause threw for 372 yards and seven
touchdowns as UW-Stevens Point steamrolled Division I-AA Butler 56-7 on
Saturday in Stevens Point.
Krause threw for five scores in the first
half as the Pointers built a 35-0 halftime lead. In the first quarter alone,
the Pointers outgained Butler 216 to minus-three in jumping
out to a 21-0 advantage. For the game, the Pointers outgained the Bulldogs
564-140 and held Butler to one yard rushing.
Krause hit Ross Adamczak for a 20-yard
touchdown on a fourth-and-nine play on the Pointers opening drive and then
Cody Childs made a 33-yard sprint after a short catch on a third-and-13 play
for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Following Krauses only interception of the
game on the next drive, he hit Childs for another score with a 19-yard
touchdown on a fourth-and-eight play to make it 21-0. Childs finished with
eight catches for 128 yards - all in the first half.
UW-Stevens Point kept rolling in the
second quarter as Krause hit Kurt Kielblock for a 21-yard touchdown, and
after a Butler fumble, found Adamczak for an eight-yard score
with 1:06 left in the half.
Kielblock caught a nine-yard touchdown
midway through the third quarter and finished with six catches for 120
yards, marking his third straight 100-yard game. Butler took
advantage of a Pointer fumble later in the third quarter and scored on one
of its only two trips inside the UW-Stevens Point 40-yard line as Adam Webb
hit Robert Leonard for a 40-yard touchdown.
Cory Flisakowski scored on a four-yard
option play to make it 49-7 on the first play of the fourth quarter. The
junior finished with 100 yards on 23 carries for his second straight
100-yard game.
Just one minute later, Krause threw a
30-yard strike to Tony Romano for his seventh touchdown pass of the game. It
marked the second-most touchdown passes in a game in school history behind
Kirk Baumgartners eight touchdowns against UW-Superior in 1989.
Krauses performance came on the heels of
a five touchdown effort in the Pointers last game a 63-0 win at Tri-State
(Ind.). UW-Stevens Points 119 points over the past two games
mark the most points the Pointers have ever scored in consecutive games. In
fact, the Pointers scored 112 unanswered points over the past three games
before Butlers third quarter touchdown.
Krause, who leads the NCAA Division III
in passing efficiency, bolstered those numbers by completing 20 of 29
passes. In three games this season, he has completed 70.7 percent of his
passes and has 15 touchdowns.
UW-Stevens Point outgained
Butler 564-140 for the game, including a 192-1 margin on the ground. The
10th-ranked Pointers are now 3-0 and take on fourth-ranked UW-La Crosse next
week. Butler slipped to 0-4 for the first time since 1942. |
