Krause Named
National Offensive Player of the Week
After completing nearly 95 percent of his passes
last week, UW-Stevens Point senior quarterback Scott Krause has been named
one of four NCAA Division III National Offensive Players of the Week by
Football Gazette.
Krause, a Waunakee native, was 18-for-19 passing
for 269 yards and five touchdowns in the Pointers� 63-0 win over Tri-State
(Ind.) last week. His 94.7 percent completions was a school record and
actually better than the Division III record of 91.3 percent, but he needed
a minimum of 20 completions to qualify for the national record.
He threw three touchdowns from more than 35 yards
and also rushed four times for 49 yards.
Krause was also named the WIAC Offensive Player of
the Week for the third time in his career. He was joined on the national
honor by Principia (Ill.) quarterback Shawn Brown, Linfield (Ore.)
quarterback Tyler Matthews and St. John Fisher (N.Y.) running back Jason
Meyers.
Football Ranked
12th in D3football.com Poll, 17th in First AFCA Rankings
The UW-Stevens Point football team jumped up two
spots to 12th in the latest NCAA Division III rankings by D3football.com and
entered the first American Football Coaches Association poll of the season
ranked 17th.
The Pointers are off to a 2-0 start for the sixth
time in the last eight years after beating Tri-State (Ind.) 63-0 last week.
UW-Stevens Point is off this week before hosting Division I-AA Butler in its
home opener on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. at Goerke Field.
Three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference squads are ranked in the top 12 of the D3football.com poll as
UW-La Crosse is ninth and UW-Stout is 10th.
